A locksmith you would recommend to a neighbour.
Most calls start with a question rather than a decision: is this lock worth saving, should the whole house be rekeyed, does a smart lock make sense on an older door. We would rather answer that properly than sell you a part. We look at the hardware, the door and how you use it, then lay out the choices and their trade-offs in plain words.
The key you reach for. The door you come home to. Good locksmith work begins with understanding how you use them.

You set the pace. We explain, you decide, we work. If you would rather sleep on a bigger change, we do what is needed now and leave the rest for another visit.
The reasoning behind each suggestion. Every recommendation comes with the reason for it, in language that does not require you to know the trade. Ask why as often as you like.
Order restored. Tools packed, dust cleared, doors closed properly. We leave your home or business looking as it did, with the lock problem gone.
Homes, businesses and vehicles each bring their own hardware and their own habits. We have grouped our services by where you are likely to need them, so you can find the one that matches your situation without wading through everything else.
Your purse was taken from the back of a chair at a restaurant. The cards can be cancelled by phone tonight, but the house keys were in the side pocket beside a driver's licence that shows exactly where those keys fit.
The house is fifteen years old and every exterior door still wears the light hardware the builder fitted: a short bolt, a thin strike held by two small screws, and a knob lock that never suited a street entrance.
The back door has a deadbolt in name only: a short bolt, a thin brass strike held by two little screws, and a jamb you can flex with your palm. It was fine for a builder's showing. It is not fine for a laneway.
Our high security visits start at the kitchen table with a question about what you are protecting and who you are worried about. From that we choose a level: a solid graded deadbolt for one household, a full restricted system for another.
Running a business means knowing who can get in when you are not there. The commercial services are different ways of answering that: rekey to reset it, master key to organise it, access control to log it, and a safe to protect what matters most inside.
The bookkeeper who set the office safe's code retired in a hurry, and the float cash for tomorrow's registers is sitting behind a keypad nobody else in the building can operate.
The till drawer has been holding two days of cash because the new shop never got a proper safe, and a locked drawer under the counter is the only thing standing between that cash and anyone who works late.
Which fix fits?
You moved in and have no idea how many house keys exist.
Sensible optionA patented cylinder in each exterior door, on one key.
WhyOld keys stop working and new ones cannot be copied without you.
A neighbour's door was kicked in and yours has the same thin strike.
Sensible optionA reinforced strike with long screws into the framing.
WhyThe bolt then ties into the studs, which is where kicked doors fail.
The stockroom has the same cylinder as the staff washroom.
Sensible optionA rated cylinder and a controlled key for that door.
WhyOne numbered key, issued against a signature, in a cylinder that resists picks and drills.
The new manager took over the shop last month and only now needs the back-office safe open, but the combination the previous owner was supposed to leave in writing never turned up anywhere in the handover file.
WhySafe opening favours the gentlest method that fits the particular safe and lock, with drilling kept as a later option rather than a first resort.
A community group counts the weekend's raffle and bake-sale cash on a kitchen table, then carries it home in a tote bag until the bank opens Monday, because there has never been anywhere safer to leave it.
WhyFor a household bringing in its first real safe, the service covers everything between the empty spot on the floor and a working, anchored unit with a combination only the family knows.
You have lost count of how many people have had a key to your house over the years: cleaners, a contractor, a former partner, the previous owner's family.
WhyHigh security locks are cylinders and deadbolts designed to defeat the methods used against ordinary doors.

01
A short conversation first
You tell us what is happening with the door, who has keys and what you would like to be different afterwards. We ask a few questions so we arrive with the right parts.
02
A proper look at the door
We check how the door hangs, how the latch meets the strike and what the cylinder is doing before deciding anything. Then we explain what we found in plain words.
03
The work, then a walkthrough
We do the job we agreed, test every key and every position of the lock, tidy up and show you how it works before we leave.
About 22% of homes in Whitchurch-Stouffville were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Newer homes
Households in newer homes are often keen on keypads, fobs and phone-controlled locks. Standard doors make installation straightforward, and the locksmith spends more of the visit setting codes and pairing devices than on carpentry.
Single-detached houses make up about 74% of homes in Whitchurch-Stouffville (2021 Census).
Mostly houses
Where homes are mostly detached, patio and sliding doors deserve attention alongside the hinged ones. Auxiliary locks, pin locks and better latches for sliders are routine additions that a locksmith brings on the same visit as the front door work.
Do I need my landlord's consent before rekeying my unit?
Read the lease, because that is where the answer lives. Commercial tenancies are governed mostly by the lease itself, and many leases require the tenant to tell the landlord when locks change, to provide a key for emergencies, or to use the landlord's approved locksmith. Doors on the building's master system, such as corridor or service doors, are normally the landlord's to change. Bring the lease to the assessment and the locksmith will sort the doors accordingly.
Will rekeying affect our alarm system or card readers?
Mechanical rekeying leaves electronics alone: alarm panels, card readers and keypads keep their codes and credentials. What changes is the list of people holding keys, and it is worth updating the alarm company's keyholder list and retiring the codes of anyone who has left at the same time, since keys and codes usually walk out together. Where a door has both a card reader and a keyed override, the override cylinder is rekeyed with the rest.
We are a landlord with a tenant leaving. When should the unit be rekeyed?
Between tenants is the ideal moment: the departing tenant has handed back their keys, the new one has not yet received any, and the unit is empty for the work. The incoming tenant then starts on keys nobody else has held, and the landlord's own master or emergency key is set up at the same time. Where a lease has ended in dispute, the locksmith asks to see the paperwork before changing locks on a unit that still holds a tenant's goods.
Do I need to replace my whole deadbolt or just the cylinder?
It depends on what you have. If the deadbolt is a good heavy unit that throws a full inch into a proper strike, a high security cylinder can replace the ordinary one and the rest stays. If the deadbolt is light, worn or throws a short bolt, a new graded deadbolt with a hardened bolt is the sensible base and the high security cylinder goes into that. The assessment tells you which, door by door.

The van that comes to Whitchurch-Stouffville carries what the job is likely to need: cylinders in the common finishes, pinning kits, strike plates in several depths, blanks for house and vehicle keys, and the small screws that always seem to be missing. Being stocked means the work is finished in one visit and you can compare real parts at the door rather than photos on a screen.
